picture framing
After receiving a hefty quote for framing a much loved poster, I decided to have a go myself. You can buy ready mitred frame components off web shops if you supply the sizes. So, how do you fit the frame together? My instinct tells me to use glue, but glue has thickness and will leave a small gap at the joints. Any suggestions please?

In the shops they use a machine to hold the bits together then it fires a metal connector which joins it. You can get a vice which will hold 2 of the pieces, put a small amount of PVA glue on each of the bits with a small brush and leave it to set, then do the next ones. A small amount of PVA shouldn't leave a gap that you can see. If you go into a craft shop they often sell the metal pieces to hold the joint together. Hope this helps and good luck with it.
hi stardelta. If you are doing more than a couple of frames, it might be worth getting some cramps, like these: corner clamp or to do the whole frame frame clamp , these are a bit fiddlyto use at first and the overall size size of the frame is restricted. You can get string ones that work in the same way. The first set you join a corner at a time. My local market does them cheaper in pairs, so you make two L shapes then join them up. If you get the bug and do lots, get your own mitre saw, this sort will give great results mitre saw . Hope that helps and I haven't bored you to tears!
stardelta so the links didn't travel! e-mail me on [email protected] and I'll re-do it.
