MM Links Solutions September 2009 [Week 1]

I can thankfully report that the first week in the reign of Lady Jill (aka tearinghair) went beautifully smoothly in spite of the radical change in the layout of AnswerBank. This was due largely to the absolute calm of Jill to tackle anything that was thrown at her! I now have great pleasure in announcing her chosen Link Words under the theme of

Beginner’s Luck

Starting PISTOL
SMALL Fortune
SECOND Chance
Card SHARP

Everyone who took part is to be congratulated for not being discouraged by the new format and jumping in at the deep end! Now that we have tried it, it isn’t all that bad!

For a first week of a setter, The Shrubbery Squad went straight for the jugular and points began flying right, left and centre. First to draw blood was fordward with CARD SHARP ~ quickly followed by Strix and later centrino for the same TWO POINTS. Around this same time came the formidable seekeerz with CARD SHARP & SECOND CHANCE to score FOUR POINTS.

With two links already gone, the remaining two went before the clock struck 09.03am! Grenmus was in as soon as he heard the STARTING PISTOL and slaney spent a SMALL FORTUNE (on her last MOT for her peat-fuelled vehicle) ~ each picking up TWO POINTS. Next to appear was Aquagility with Small Fortune and Card Sharp to match seekeerz’ FOUR POINTS ~ and score a much awaited coup.

Arriving a little late was ex-champion cliffyg (under the guise of dog, Jess) with THREE hits for as many points! This amazing feat was repeated over five hours later by the psychic SHAZZA ~ and Lady Jill had been well and truly sussed! Among the single-point scorers, I must mention patchett who managed a very credible double hit. Well done!

As for the honours, there are several worthy scorers to consider. However in view of their Four Points picked up early in the game, I declare that Aquagility AND seekeerz should share the coveted title of HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK!

The League Table after this first week is looking quite interesting:

FOUR POINTS: Aquagility & seekeerz
THREE POINTS: SHAZZA & cliffyg
TWO POINTS: centrino, fordward, Grenmus, patchett, roslyn, slaney & Strix
ONE POINT: mirandasmum & teacher1

That’s 30 points in all ~ a great total for a first week! Well done Lady Jill for setting such an interesting game. I wonder how the next round will shape up?

Thank you Crofter & Lady Jill Zero for me - I should have listened to Mrs G2 who correctly guessed two of them. Over the next few weeks, I will have to monitor her predictive abilities very closely with a view to exploiting them. See you next week

So pleased am I that even crofter's mocking of my fine old car leaves me serene and composed.

Well done AQ and Steff, Hot Shots and leaders! and the other point scorers. Thanks to Crofter for managing to organise it in these trying (revamped) times.
No points for me and I doubt that I'll be able to access a PC next week while I'm in Northern Ireland, therefore it'll be another blank week :-((
