car stereo cd player

i've wired the battery memory to the live, but still my stereo resets every time it is switched back on...why is this happening?

Hiya anglo..

Have you connected it to a permanent Live??, or a switchable??.. There should be two power wires behind the dashboard for the radio feed, one that is permanantly live, whether the ignition is in the Off, Aux, Ign, or Start positions. The other only becomes live when the key is turned to the fist position (Aux) and from there onwards.

If you have a circuit tester, check that you have wire the permanant feed to the Memory of the radio.

there are three wires...live neutral and the other is aerial i think because it fits nicely into the back of the stereo....my  car is a b reg escort so any more ideas? cheerz

First things first,

ALWAYS disconnect your battery before playing with power leads...Saves lots of fuses, and may save your car from becoming a burnt out wreck..

Okay, your Aerial lead will be unmistakable. Its a bit think GREY lead that has a metal plug on the end, like a smaller version of your tv one indoors. This plugs Directly into your Head Unti (CD Player).

Right, now you need to have a look behind your dash for three Wires..

BROWN - This is your Earth or Neutral

RED - This is your PERMANANT Live. This is live at all times, even when your keys are out of the ignition. 

YELLOW - This is your SWITCHABLE Live. This is connected to your ignition switch and only becomes live when you put your keys in and turn your ignition to the fist position. 

Sounds like your Head Units permant feed is connected to your switchable live, which means everytime you take you keys out of the ignition, there is no permant feed there to keep the Head Units memory.

Hope this helps, but remember, disconnect battery, and get a Circiut tester..
