Cervical cancer jab now available in Boots!
3 Answers
It's the same jabs they have been giving to the school kids now us adults can have it from boots it's 3 jabs at different times, at the cost of £405. It's supposed to decrease chances by 70%.
Would you get it?
Will it go down in price in the future?
Will they roll in out throught the NHS for free/reduced?
Do you worry about the side effects, was any of that proven?

The point about the recently announced national programme for schoolgirls is to attempt to vaccinate girls prior to sexual activity - If one is already sexually active, then there is a chance ( about 1 in 10 for women in their 20s) that they have already been infected with HPV.
The vaccines currently on offer protect against HPV 16 and 18, which together constitute around 70% of all HPV cases.
Should you decide to go ahead and get the vaccine, you also need to understand that we do not have a diagnostic test for HPV as yet - the only thing we can screen for is the most serious effect of the virus (cancer of the cervix), and that is done by checking for abnormal cells in the smear test - so don't abandon the smear test if you have the vaccine ; This is really important.

Just to add -
The NHS has already made up its mind regarding offering such vaccines on the NHS to women over 18 - and that answer is no. The risks versus the reward don't make sense.
The pricing is interesting too - Most expensive vaccince in history, by a long way.
Any medication can have side effects, and vaccines are no exception. There were as of July 2008 7,500 adverse reactions reported and are being investigated out of around 13.5 million doses given. Obviously the risk factor becomes more of a consideration if the benefit you are likely to get from the vaccine is reduced or absent because you already have HPV or whatever.
