I couldn't believe this scenario at Tesco the other night. A woman in front of me at the checkout had put all her stuff through, bagged it up and into the (piled high) trolley again. Then she took off. The cashier was holding a £20.00 note and looking resigned. I asked 'What is she doing now?', & the cashier said the customer was going outside to the ATM to check her balance. I thought, 'Fine, she's almost finished and will be back in a minute to say everything's ok'. But no. The man behind me had already given up, and the woman came back to announce that her wages should have cleared last night, but hadn't. Therefore, of the mountain of groceries she'd had scanned & bagged, she could only take away what came to the £20.00 she had handed to the cashier - the rest would have to be gone through again and voided. Why didn't the silly moo find all this out beforehand?

cashier should have saved the transaction and carried on serving until the cash strapped lady came back.

Now if tesco were still to take cheques would have been ok
