I have solved practically the whole of this but cannot see how the writer's name can help me resolve the remaiining ambiguity. We are to highlight a name of six letters. The writer's pen name is three letters long, his original name (which he never uses) is three words each of six letters. The letters I have available for the ambiguous squares do not lend themselves to constructing any of these names.
What have I missed ?

I sugges you concentrate on the real surname.

The ambiguity to be resolved is where to place two ( there are only two) letters in unchecked squares.
RossR, I think you may have the wrong writer. The quote is a very slight twist on the normal phrase, with one vowel changed in the central noun, and that should lead you to the correct author, whose name is two words of six letters
His full name does comprise three six letter words, and one of his pen names is a three letter word.
Forget my previous post, then

Thanks, Rollo, but I have concentrated like anything for two days and got nowhere! Is the name in a straight line?
Concentrate on 3D.

A bit of jumbling needed.
Question Author
Rollo, I appreciate that 3D is jumbled. My answer follows very clearly from the clue, I have all but three letters already checked and the remaining three are KAL, which cannot possibly help me spell out the surname.
I really need somebody to rub my nose in this!
Try LA?K??

Thanks, twencelas, that does give me a very plausible name, but not any of the names I was looking for. I will have to revisit all my theories, but at least my hair can beging to grow back.
