Maths for 8/9 year olds

A friend has asked me to help tutor her son in maths (he is almost 9) and I am happy to do this - but wondered if anyone could recommend some books we can use as I want to be sure I use up to date methods/content. Thanks.

The main difficulty is to ensure that the terminology and methods you use are current, otherwise the child may feel confused later on. The mathematical outcomes remain the same but the language and approaches used vary. This link will help you keep in the swim and it has free resources:
