My computer had a CD-Rom read only drive(D) and a CD-Rom read/write drive.(E)

I recently replaced one of my CD-Rom drives (D)read only), with a DVD-Rom drive (read & record)

I now find that I cannot record or play with the original CD-Rom (E)read & record), although the new DVD-Rom works perfectly.

I get the message E:\is not accessible.

The request could not be preformed because of an I/O device error.

I know I do not really need this CD-Rom drive now I have a DVD-Rom drive, but can anyone help please?

The problem is I can not remember if the original CD-Rom (read & record) worked after I replaced the other one.

If they're on the same cable, first check that you didn't partially displace the cable on the drive. Also check that one is set to master and the other to slave on the jumper settings.
have you checked to see if both cd and dvd are shown as masters. If they are on the same IDE cable, one of them should be set to slave drive.
