Does anybody know some good sad songs? I want some quite modern ones, with nice meaningful lyrics but also some classics like adagio for strings. stuff that can move you to tears! please.
I can't believe no one has mentioned Trouble by Coldplay! There's another one of theirs that gets me "awl choked up like" and that's Warning Sign from their new CD "A Rush Of Blood To The Head". Miss Sarajevo [sp?] by U2 is a beautiful sad one as well. Sorry, i think that was actually by The Passengers. (U2 and Brian Eno in disguise) Oh i could go on naming them all night... but i won't. But imagine this - if i'm feeling slightly down and Coldplay come on the radio, i have to go and hide the paracetamol and razor blades from myself! (ok, it's time to seek help) ;)
Radiohead depress the hell outta me so try paranoid android album, Counting Crows - Colorblind , samuel barber - adagio for strings (theme music to the film platoon - brilliant)
The Boys: If You Go Away - Scott Walker, How Can We Hang on to a Dream - Tim Hardin, Uncovered - The Call, I am a Rock - Simon & Garfunkel The Girls: A Woman Left Lonely - Maggie Bell, Sand & Water - Beth Nielsen Chapman, Song of Bernadette - Jennifer Warnes The lyrics, the voices, the shivers...
Yes, Cetti is quite right Barber's "adagio for strings" is often used as a backing track for sad images, and was also used (and slightly spiced) in William Orbit's Adagio for strings (heard of it? it was in Kevin & Perry movie). I also reccomend "Fields of Gold" by Eva Cassidy - the song used int he cancer research advert where the young lad is touching the mirror and seeing his dead mum.
