I suppose it does depend on your situation, i you have property and equity and are able to remortgage to clear debt then it may work, but if you have a poor credit score you may struggle to find a good deal on a remortgage and put yourself in a worse situation. there are schemes that help you clear debt if you are unemployed, they are very strict and won;t work for many people but they wipe your debt after a short time. check it out on the directgov website.

Do NOT go through one of those debt management services who charge you for the service - all the reputable and genuine ones are free.
