Calling you eagle eyed researchers!
I have posted in this section a couple of times and been lucky enough to have had people find the people I am looking for really quickly (I had obviously missed them myself) - Craft and Dot you are goddesses!
OK, so here is a challenge.......
I met a distant relative tonight from Australia - we contacted each other through ancestry.co.uk. We had a fantastic evening and we are meeting again on Friday before she and her husband travel onwards. She is descended from a chap called Henry Hurry, born circa 1829 in Thorney, Cambs (not to be confused with a chap of the same name born in Whittlesey- related but not the same chap). The HH I am looking for is the son of John Hurry and Hannah Bridges. I am descended from Henry's elder sister, Betsy (and in fact from her uncle, but that's another story).
Anyway, I found HH on the 1841 Census at school in Wisbech with his brother (under the name of "Henry Harry"). After 1841, I have no trace. He rocks up in Aus in 1864 when he marries Ann Lewin.
I have found a HH who was transported in 1845 aged 24. This COULD be my chap, but given that I think I found him in the 41 Census at school aged 13, this doesn't fit. Also his birth and baptism records show him as being born in 1829/bapt 1830. I can't find him on the 51 or the 61 but by 64 we know he was in Australia. Any suggestions? I'd love to help my cousin out with her ancestry if I can!

Have you managed to find local newspaper entries that early to perhaps follow the case? Certainly the quarter session record of the examninations and trial should be available in the CRO and would give you clues to if the harry transported is your harry, it would give home village and possibly who his father was with him being so young.
What surname variations have you searched with? Also, if you know where he should have been, have you trawled through the enumeration districts in the original films to see if he has been transcribed incorrectly?

No I'm stumped.........
Found a Henry Hurry of Cambridgeshire in the 1861 Criminal Register but my ancestry membership doesn't let me see the records.
Also found a HH in 1861 in the army serving in St Helier.....that only says he's from England but he's too old by about 5 years.
Have copied and pasted your info into the community site on Genes Reunited......if there is a response it should be today..........

Thank you ladies! Just got in so I will do some digging as you suggest.
Dot - the transportation record I picked up after finding the Old Bailey trial transcript - it is the original I've looked at. The OB trial gives his age, the transportation record gives a different (older) age. Indeed, the OB record records he had a previous conviction in 1844. The other thing that concerns me about the OB record is that this crime took place in London. Not checked that marriage, but will have a sniff around now.
Craft I'll check the 1861 Criminal Register - I have a full sub to ancestry.co.uk (and am happy to do lookups if you need me to).

I did notice there were a couple of henry hurry entries in the London area on the IGI and the census in the mid 1800s. maybe if you eliminate them using the census and GRO after the deportation date. there is a henry hurry on the 1861 aged 31 born Cambridgeshire a 'visitor' but i haven't looked at the full entry yet. what was the Old BAILEY trial about! that's a serious place to be!
