Why is Mum always makes the bes tSunday lunches?

Mine did, my daughter says I do!
even you blokes, I bet you loved Ma's cooking..lol
Sunday, she even found time to bake too, we had scones and apple pie for tea, no mod-cons then
How did they manage???
Monday was wash-day, now we open a door, throw them in and walk away
What other things did you imagine was just routine for them, and taken for granted by us?

I remember as a child my mother having a Monday as wash day with her twin load Servis washing machine that pulsed for hours.

It slow on here today bobbi - the sunday lunch can be had any day of the week now - its not just special to sunday. I remember my mother steeping clothes with stains so there were buckets lying around

My mum: Doing the Sunday Express crossword every week without any help except the odd book in the house for 40 years, completeing it, posting it Monday morning knowing it was correct, looking at the winners list in the paper the following week. No WWW needed to find answers, just her own brain and a few books.

My mum had a washing machine with a wringer on the top. I used to love turning the handle to wring the water out., (1950s)

the flatley drier with the round wooden poles across the top was the best, we could play sword fights with the poles and they were perfect for making brandy snaps on bonfire night. My Mum's machine was a big round Bendix with a double ringer on the top, it was huge, before that we had a tub and posser and a mangle.

eeeeh, dot, the Flatley Drier!!! we had one of those, before that there was a gas boiler in the 'scullery' didn't say kitchen then...lol, Mum used to put a dolly blue in to whiten the sheets, the house on Mondays was always steamy like a laundry

My mum...god bless her..........was the world's worst cook!! My grandma taught me how to bake and one of my neighbours, when I got married, taught me to cook properly.

We all learned to cook in sheer self-defence in our family. My Mother had no interest in cooking and even less talent. She was so happy when she got meals on wheels and thought the advent of ready made sarnies in the co-op brilliant. She could boil a kettle for her cuppa relly well tho'.

My Mum stopped cooking for me when I was 10. I don't know why :-(

At least I learnt how to cook at a young age. Ginger much prefers my dinners to his Mums.

My Nan was a great cook and I lived with her for many years. She use to cook special meals for me because I wouldn't eat most meats. I do now though.

My Mum used to make a steak and kidney in a cloth and boil for
hours , also a bacon and onion roly poly pudding they were lovely
but as she is now disabled she rarely makes them ...homemade
food when I was a child was the only thing eaten , apart from
fish and chips on Friday ....

Putting sixpences and thrupenny pieces in the christmas pudding, getting excited when you nearly choked on one. Steaming spotted dick in Dad's hankie for hours on end. Those were the days.
