Looking for books/authors to read

evening all,

I am looking for new authors who will keep me reading and desperate to finish the book.

My usual authors are Jodie Picoult, Julie Walters, Joanna Trollop, Kate Moss's two books plus a few other authors.

Can anyone suggest books/authors that are a real good read.

I usually go for something that's thought provoking, bit of history brought into the present day ie Kate Moss style. I don't mind detective but not violent. Definitely no Mills & Boon or unnecessary violence/sex.

Yes, read both of Kate Morton's books, enjoyed every page and visualized the characters etc.

I like Cecelia Ahern's, books, slightly romanticised, but good.

James Twining also writes really good books dealing mainly with theft in art world bust based around a historical issue

There is a book by an authoress of the surname Hislop called The Return.
Very good book.
Also have you tried Sophie Kinsella. All very good light hearted reads.

Thanks for your suggestions, please keep them coming as I have read all Cecilla Ahern and Khaled Hosseini books.

I can't deal with Sophie Kinsella but will definitely give Victoria Hislop a go.

I usually read a book a week depending on size. So need all the ideas possible.

Victoria Hislop.....The Island is a good read. I also recommend anything by Anita Shreve, Anne Tyler, and Anna Quindlen x

If you want detective but without the gore The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency books are good and the Agatha Raisin series by MCBeaton .

Just read a book by William Brodrick entitled A Whispered Name .You may like that as it's fairly recent history about an officer in WW1 who became a monk after he had been affected by the decision he had to make to shoot a deserter and the consequences of his actions in later life .When he dies all sorts of things come to light .
It was briliant and a bit of a tear jerker :) .
It's his third book in the series about Brother Anselm a lawyer turned monk who delves into the recent past .

How about the Twilight books by Stephanie Meyer.

I think they were originally written for the late teens age group but i hate to say how many 30, 40 and 50 somethings that have fallen for Edward Cullens charms lol

i also give a thumbs up for "the time traveller's wife".

Diana Gabaldon .... Cross-stitch about time slip back to the days before Culloden .
Also all her following books. Just been re-reading them.
Fully recomend Audrey Niffennegger Time traveller's wife.

Im now reading a book called 'The Book Thief' cant remember who its by (tis upstairs) but is a very good read, is in all bookshops at the mo :) x

Yes, i've read the Book Thief - very good book

I have read most of the books suggested and decided to read the Time travellers wife when i've finished by current book then look into Diana Gabaldon. The reviews on Amazon are just as positive.
