Grievance Procedures
Hi Guys... Long time no speak...
hopefully you can give me some guidance.
I am an Operations Manager within a "smallish" company, approx 50 staff, above me is the Operations Director (O.D) and then the M.D.
The M.D is a vile little man, he has always been a bit of a bully, shouting people down etc.
However, just recently he has had constantly belittled mine and my O.D decisions with regards to the company and ops staff. in such a way that he will get in your face, scream, swear etc etc until yesterday whereas i was taken to the hospital with a suspected heart attack, fortunately it was only my gall bladder going into spasms because of the stress that i am currently under.
I am working 12 hours shifts for this man, my hours are "normal" office hours. He has taken upon himself to even "bully" the O.D even more than he does to myself.
He has the Finance Director worrying every time he has to go into a meeting with him, our Logistics Manager is a shadow of his former self, he is losing the plot...
I havent been there quite a year yet so i know as much as that i dont have any legal rights until i have been there a year.
I/We cant go and speak to the HR Manager as if we ever tell her any in confidence, she goes straight to the M.D and tells him everything, so we get into even more trouble as he will then take us up to the boardroom and scream at us.
he enoys seeing us "quake", if you stay calm then he doesnt shout at you as much... i know you are all going to say then stay calm, i know this... but day after day after day it does wear down even the most strongest of people, such as myself, i am ex military so can take pretty much any abuse, but this is really getting to me now.
I cant eat, sleep, im now on medication for my gall bladder.
I have requested my contract to se

Start a diary and log everything. If you can, tape his shouting. Confide all to your GP who will record it on your medical file.
Make an appointment to see this cretin(and take a friend with you as witness). Explain all your concerns and see what he says.
If it continues, hand in your notice and then sue the pants off him for constructive dismissal.

Hi Kat,
You are perfectly within your rights to address this with the HR Manager - if she is reporting these issues back to the MD in a manner that is not considered as constructive to the situation then her ability to do her job should be called in to question too, to be honest.
I'm assuming that you are based in the UK? The time limit right not to be unfairly dismissed has now been reduced to 1 year so you are within your rights to raise this issue if you have gone passed this stage.
I really think that you should speak to a professional about it.
Good luck!
