I have been given a brickette maker for recycling old newspapers to burn on our fire. I haven't got any instructions but I am having a go at it although I'm not sure that I'm doing it right. Does anyone know how it works?

A word of advice...if you plan to soak the newspaper in your kitchen sink, line it with a bin-bag. Obviously, the ink leaks out and can make a heck of a mess of your surfaces!
I used to do this all the time. Shred your newspaper and soak them in a bucket of water. Put the mush into the briquette maker then squeeze the handle down as hard as you can, take the briquette out and let it dry. As the meerkat says - simples :)
I agree with the answers so far but I used to mix in coal dust with the wet paper
