In the work place....What does it mean when you notice that a person constantly clears their throat in most conversations but, does not when they are around people that are of the same education/status as the speaker?

Could be due to nervousness?
Question Author
Doesn't seem to be. This person is extremely confident and cocky.Very sure of himself.Almost on the verge of refering to himself in the third person, if you know what I mean.
it means you're pretty perceptive... but perhaps oversensitive. Is it actually a problem for you? If not, it's his problem; let him clear his throat until it's sore. If he's sensitive to your status, he's a clot; no reason for you to be, is there?

I don't believe that I'm an oversensitive person. Not really. There are other co-workers that are in agreement with me on this issue. That is why I posted this to begin with.I am not trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill, so to speak. It just seems rude to me to treat certain people in this manner, I think.I just wanted to know if sounded like this person's way of giving his verbal responses emphasis with a certain heir of vanity and arrogance.Believe me, if you met this person you would know right off that it comes across as a self appointed know it all. Then again, you might be right,I may be insecure and over sensitive.........Naaaaaaa.I pretty secure in my skin.

actually constant throat clearing tends to be a sign of nervousness, not arrogance!
Glad you agree woofgang - I know someone veryclose to me who does this when they're feeling nervous or edgy.
