Just curious to know if anyone has any historical information or personal experiences with regards to hauntings in the Footscray Meadows area. The only one I know of is the paragraph posted on Wikipedia about the "White Lady".

However, I have seen an apparition of what seems to be a Victorian Gentleman that faded when entering the woods on the pathway which leads from Five Arches bridge to Albany Park.
At first I was sceptical, believing it could have been an optical illusion or simply tiredness (it was on a dark February morning I witniessed this). What has rekindled my interest now is that several other residents have seen a similar spectre to the one I've seen. I have tried researching the area, but haven't had much sucess as of yet

Sorry, Pericat, I neglected to say it's in the London Borough of Bexley. It is fascinating from a paranormal and a historical point of view as well. There have always been rumours that the Meadows are haunted, but in over two hundred years, no one knows exactly by what. There's nothing concrete. There's enough history in the area for it to play the part. Two old churches border it and there's the remains of Footscray Place, a lush mansion that was bulit in 1754 and burnt down in 1949. Only a few pieces of worn stonework remain and an avenue of trees that lead to a clearing where it once stood.
