Coming home yesterday evening I dialled 1571 to retrieve any messages.
I got a recording saying "You have received picture message 24,000,000 etc etc.
I say etc because I deleted the message before it finished.
Thinking to find out what/where the number that had called me was I dialled 1471,only to be told that it was my home phone number that called me!
I ranf the BT Nuisance Call number where a pleasant guy told me that sometimes 1571 called you back to tell you that you had a message, hence the home phone number left.
I assume this is correct, but call me neurotic (yes, you can !) but I wondered if anyone else had experienced 1571 calling them back, because I never have before.
With all these phone scams (recorded and otherwise) I just need a bit of reassurance.
Thanks,
Alec.

on my mobile i sometimes get a "you have voice mail " showing on screen ,only to be told when ive dialled it (and paid for it) i have no voice mail
do you use a mobile. It may just be that someone has accidentally texted you a photo to your home number instead of your mobile number.
BT do ring ur number to receive ansafone messages.....sometimes; dont know how they decide which are important.

Thanks guys for your answers,I would give you stars, but as you know we can't at the moment.
redcrx,I think you may be right, your answer seems most logical.
defgeers,it's infuriating isn't it!
tamborine,Yes,I don't know either how the 1571 service decides WHICH messages to ring you about either.
Hopefully help reassure you I think like you said redcrx is probably right. Twice in the past I have accidently sent a text message from my mobile to a friend but sent to their home number by mistake,. They are then the recipient of a spooky voice message through their home phone. I suspect this has been the case here with a picture message.
