Pregnancy Test after giving birth..
My hubby & I are trying for another baby. We started 4 weeks after the birth of our daughter. I'm bottle feeding & was wandering how soon a home pregnancy test would give a correct answer as I obviously don't know when my periods are due to start again. I'm due to have an important X-ray Friday but don't want to attend if I'm pregnant...

I would imagine that it is too soon after the birth to be pregnant - my two are 13 months apart, but I do know of people with kids closer together (11 months apart) where the 2nd birth was not early and I had two girls in my class at school who were 8 months apart but the 2nd had been premature. So clearly not impossible.
We had ours close together as we had trouble conceiving our first and you tend to be very fertile after a birth. You would also not necessarily have a period first as the egg is released prior to your period.
I would explain to the xray people, phone them if you can - I am sure that they will give you the correct guidance.

Are you mad?! Sorry thats not meant to sound awful but reading this has genuinely amazed me! Although I stupidly had unprotected sex for the first time 3 weeks after giving birth, so it could have happened to me! I woke up in the morning and prayed it wouldn't have.
I know its none of my business but I would love to know why you want another baby so soon, I am not judging you in any way. It took me over 4 years to decide to try for my 2nd!
But each to there own! I hope you catch on soon if its what you want, good luck. In regards to the xray like others have said, phone them and tell them you may be pregnant in the very early stages.

im reading you post open mouthed here and cant believe you trying so soon after the birth of your daughter, im tottally amazed someone would want to even have there partner touch them after 4 weeks lol. im not judging you infact i think your a very brave woman but i would speak to your gp before trying again or at least wait for your 6 week check to see if everything is back where it should be. I was always told its best to give your body ideally a year to get back to its pre pregnancy way before trying
Hi daffy - I don't know if k8's reasons will be the same as mine, but we took a few years of trying before we had my first son, we wanted another child and didn't want a big gap, so we started trying for another really soon for two reasons, 1, we thought it may take years again and I wasn't getting any younger, 2. you have a small time period after giving birth where you are very fertile and we wanted to take advantage of that.
K8 may have other reasons, but she seems to have disappeared, possibly because of some of answers she has received. Not that any of them are nasty, but I think sometimes it is important to remember that we are dealing here with a woman who has just given birth and has worries and concerns to deal with as well as her new born and hormonal changes. I think that posting in this topic is akin to poking a tiger with cubs!!

Hi All, I've received allot of advice, opinions & questions. Yes, we took a little while to concieve naturally for Felicity & would like our children close together if possible. I only bled for 1 week after birth & by week 4 was ready to have sex with my husband, no it wasn't romantic but I had a straight forward pregnancy & birth & I personally felt ready for sex again. I cancelled my Xray & postponed this until I know the result. I'm off to my 6 week check now so hoping for a blood test follwed by a correct result. Thanks.. I think x
