Does anyone have recommendations for a powerful yet affordable vacuum cleaner? I dont care what brand it is as long as it sucks properly and doesnt cost the earth! Thanks

Miele always come up well in the Which magazine tests. My friend had one for 15 years and it hasn't broken down yet. It depends on whether you have hard flooring or carpet though. As a rule, a cylinder cleaner is better for hard floor and an upright with rotating bristles is better for carpet. Look at the online reports from Which magazine. Or if you are really sad like me, you can go to your local library and read them. I dont buy anything without taking a look first....
