She is only 11 and I need to delete her address because of it, so how do you delete it. I dont want to delete windows live messenger completely from the computer as we have got a number of accounts with them and they dont seem to be affected. I only need to delete hers but because im a right thicko when it comes to computer stuff I dont know how to do it. Thanx

There will be a connections tab somewhere with her account in it. You should delete it from there.

Unfortunately, this is a growing problem with MSN as unscrupulous people are tricking people into giving out their login and password details. This usually targets the young and is one og the reasons why you should always monitor your child's usage.

One of her contacts will have been tricked into giving out her details via a message like this:

Hey Jamxtart, check out this picture I found of you:

The site is safe to click on but DO NOT ENTER YOUR DETAILS on it!!! The user clicks on it, thinks it's ok, enters their details and next thing someone has their details and can spam all the other people on their contact list.
Squarebear , are you sure about removing the account ? I would have thought opening a new account & only giving the address to people she trusted, would be better surely ?
It doesn't really matter about her opening new accounts, as it's phishers using her existing contacts to send these links.

One or more of her contacts have been silly enough to enter their details on fake websites such as the one I mentioned.

Parts of the terms and conditions of these sites say:
We may temporarily access your MSN account to do a combination of the following: 1. Send Instant Messages to your friends promoting this site. 2. Introduce new entertaining sites to your friends via Instant Messages.

These "entertaining sites" are usually porn.

Creating a new account and passing it to her friends will not get rid of it, as she will no doubt add all her old friends again.

Parents NEED to sit with their child while they use the net to avoid situations like this.
To be honest, the best thing your daughter can do is to advise the users who are sending these links to change their Windows Live or MSN login passwords and not to enter their details on ANY website.
All very good and very relevant answers. however neither answered the question asked.

The first thing I'd do is you want to stop her using that account is to sign in with her password then go to account settings and change the password to something else that she does not know.
That way she cannot sign back into it.

After you have done that do this.

Go to http://www.hotmail.com (sign in with your daughters username and password - by the way you can change the password here also in account settings)

click Help on any Hotmail page.

Type Close Account in the keyword search section of the Help screen.

Click the Close Your Hotmail Account tip within the Help screen.

Click the Close Account link that is highlighted in blue.
Click Close Account

If you want more facts on keeping your daughter safe online take a read of http://www.fixmypcuk.com

Its got lots of uselful facts and tips, and even sells a cd that allows people to fix their own pc should you have a problem and its designed for people who know nothing about computers and is easy to use.
I realise my reply is of absolutely no help to you at all but I just had to share!
When I read your (truncated) question from the list it said (and I quote) "My daughter has got a messenger account so she can speak to her mates on line. Lately she has been getting pornagraphic pop ups telling her to click on them. She is only 11 and I need to delete her"
My first thought was that deleting your child is probably a hasty decision for any parent, yet it did raise an interesting question... How would one go about deleting an 11 year old child?
Perhaps if you find the time after solving your original dilemma you could get back to me.
I know several parents who could use some advice on the latter!

My thanks in advance,
Azimov
