what is the features desk?

What is the features desk at a newspaper and what would be the role of someone working there and any idea of the salary?
Any help would be much appreciated!

Blimey can i have a job at that paper! �20,000? On a national maybe, but don't think you''ll walk into a job there, local newspapers is best to start and the features desk is the same - you get to write fun stuff about pretty much anything - and get a load of freebies! Although expect to earn more like �12-15k. Also there's a difference between news features and human interest, the former would be more hard-hitting or more newsy, while the latter can be anything from holidays to facials to new age therapy. If you're looking to get into it, get qualified and do as much work experience as possible.
