Coincidence: I had an email this very morning from a friend in Christchurch, NZ. Edited highlights: "I've been here exactly three weeks now, which just isn't long enough. It's been a bit of a whistle stop tour through the most consistenly beautiful country I think I've ever been to... I could go on for hours about where I've been... in the North the beautiful Bay of Islands - amazing even when overcast, floating through Glow Worm caves in a tyre inner tube in Waitomo, and the amazing thermal pools and Geysers of Rotarua - although the sulphur does give the whole town a smell of rotton eges! ... I also did New Zealand's "Best one day walk"...the Tongoriro Crossing, which passed over the craters of still active volcanos... In the South Island I've been ice walking on Glaciers... picked the one sunny day of the month to go to the awesome Millford sound, which is just simply stunning... I've also just got back from Kaikoura, where I went swimming with Dolphins."
To which I would add the Coromandel and Auckland itself: great food, atmosphere and people. Great mix of cultures. God's own country.
