Volume control

I've just performed a system recovery (Windows XP) and seem to have lost volume control and speaker function, and also the standby button. Any ideas? I've tried installing drivers (express install) but this just brings back the original fault. Maybe custom install might work but I'm not sure what to install from here. Many thanks BB

Hi
Click START then CONTROL PANEL then AUDIO and SOUNDS DEVICES and check nothing is selected as muted.Check also the ADVANCED option and check the sliders. Hope this helps

Thanks but unfortunately the audio device isn't there. It doesn't seem to have installed during the System Recovery and I'm not sure where to find it. BB

Have you tried re-installing the audio driver?
If yes and still no sound.....try this ....click Start.. Help and support...Windows update... and download a driver from there.
or
Click Start/control panel/performance & maint/system/hardware/device manager/double click sounds & video and right click your sound device and select properties/device usage/enable and select use this device.
