my gran just bought an ex-display cooker from comet, she has got it home and realised theres no instruction manual, she didn't mind as surely its simple to use a cooker??she tried grilling a sausage this morning and 20 mins later they were still raw!i went round to have a look and the grill light comes on,the grill pan gets hot but the grill frame itself doesn't go red and i can put my hand under it and its only warm?its as if the oven is on but this is impossible as they are seperate with the oven underneath?im baffled!any ideas??

For example, in our old cooker there was a knob you turned into one of two positions, 1st and the grill came on in a central band of the grill, 2nd position it powered up the whole grill. The second knob had five separate positions to control the amount of heat.
On our new oven there is a knob which you turn to 1st position and top oven comes on 2nd position and the grill comes on, and there is a second knob which controls the amount of heat coming out and that is measured in degrees with a complete range across the whole grill. Even at low, the whole grill heats up.

Why doesn't your Gran speak to Comet and tell them that the grill does not appear to be working. Just because it is an ex-display model, it still has to be fit for purpose unless you were informed of any faults.
If they still have the same model in stock at the showroom go in and ask a salesman to ive you a demo of how the grill works so you know if it has a fault or not.
Comet should be quite willing to help in this dept. Particularly if you go in and they think you are a new customer wanting to buy one. Just look at it and ask how the grill is turned on then say you will go home and have a think about it.

It would help if you could post the Belling Model number, which would be displayed on the front or a label on the back. Then you could ask your question at < http://www.justanswer.com/appliance/uk/belling?r=ppc|ga|5|HI+%2D+Appliances|Belling&JRA=2597789&JPKW=belling%20manuals&JPDC=S&JPST=&JPAD=2994731238&JPAF=txt&JPCD=20090212-1&JPRC=1 >
Hope this helps.
