i have booked a return train ticket online for next week but have just realised that I now need the return train after 6pm instead of the 4pm I have booked. would it be possible to get the later train with this ticket or do you have to get the train stated. I was going to phone the company but its £1.00 per minute!

No yo ucan't get a 6pm train with a 4pm booked ticket. The reason they are cheaper booking in advance is that you get a set time. We came back from holiday 7 hours earlier than planned and it would have cost over £100 to have the ticket amended.
It depends what sort of ticket you have booked. If you booked an advance ticket then you have to catch the train you booked. If it's an open ticket then you can get a later train. If you get on the wrong train with an advance ticket (and your ticket is checked) you will be charged the full price plus possibly a fine.

thanks ive just seen the terms and conditions and it says under changes to travel plans: changes to travel are permitted free of charge only for the same day and on valid trains.
In that case, you are good to go.

PHEW! thanks for replies
jaycee, when faced with a premium phone line, try this site

enter the company name and it will quite likely find you a regular-cost phone line to use.
