Car insurance - Can you insure a car that is not currently on the DVLA database
Can anyone give me some advice about car insurance. The story is.... I have bought a car which has private plates. However I did not want to keep these plates and wanted to revert to the original age appropriate plates so sent away all the appropriate paperwork to dvla. I have recieved back the certificate that allows me to go buy the new standard plates and display them on the vehicle and new tax disc and MOT with the correct registration on etc. This took about 10 days from applying. However DVLA informs me it will take another 4-6 weeks for the new amended V5c (logbook) to arrive. When you do a vehicle check on the dvlas website the new registration number is not recognised but the old private plateis still showing the cars details. I presume this will be the case until the V5C administration is done.
My question is this. I have no insurance yet for this car was waiting until I got the new plates until I drove it believing this would only take a few days as it has done but I need the car now and therfore need to insure it. What reg mark do I insure it under? The old private plate since that is the one still on the dvla database or the new plates which I have got the paperwork which permits me to display the new mark??? any advice would be appreciated. tThe girl I have just spoken to from my insurance company didnt have a clue!!!
