please help this computer idiot

i posted this ages ago but still havent managed it. i have internet provided by virgin media, which feeds the computer, i have a router on it which we need for the laptop and it works fine, but the connection is not secure. someone answered me last time saying u go in through the little telly screen on the toolbar but i dont have one on my toolbar. can some one talk me through what to do in easy mode lol cheers K. Right, musicmummy,
On the main computer click start, then run and type in the letters cmd and hit enter, in the black window that comes up type in ipconfig and hit enter, make a note of the number after "default gateway" (it will be something like 192.168.2.1
Now open a web browser and type that number (including the full stops) into the address bar and hit enter
When you're prompted for a user name and password enter the user name admin leave the password blank and login.....
let me know if it's working so far and you are seeing the admin pages for your router
