Am I right in thinking that there's something in yoghurts which means that they don't really go out of date? I just ate on from september 29 and it seemed fine. Will I be sick in the morning or am I correct in my notion?

wait til tomorrow and find out. =P
if it tasted ok, then it should be fine
If it tasted ok it will probably be ok.

Remember..there was talk about scrapping the sell by/use by date because people were throwing away perfectly good food.
Same with most dairy products...if it does not smell "off" probably ok.
The acids in yoghurt slow down the rate of growth of any nasty bacteria. It's quite possible that it's perfectly edible up to a month after the BB date. As long as the lid isn't raised (blown), and there's no trace of any mould on the surface, it's unlikely to do you any harm.
I often eat yogurts long past their sell by date. No bad results so far!
dont forget
sell by date and best before are completely different.

sell by date, indicates the Shop must not sell this product after this date at full price
Best before date is recommend not to eat it after this date, esp meat products. some are still fine after this date esp, packets of crisps.
since you are on about use by dates has enyone any idea why water filter cartridges would have a use by date, I bought some kenwood ones with a date, but no others that I've ever had has it on, it puzzles me.
and yes I have eaten out of date stuff and come to no harm, whatever happened to, look, smell and common sense.

Well I'm still here anyway and I've eaten another one tonight. That's them finished now, just so you don't think that all I've got is out of date food in my fridge.
Food might spoil after the use by date, but most will not give you food poisoning.

I wouldn't take the risk with prawns or poultry though!
