Train Season Tickets & Magnets
I have a season ticket for the train, which sometimes stops working (i.e. in the barriers). I can then get a replacement, but they sometimes tell me it's because I've had it next to my mobile phone, which affects the magnetic strip.
It's quite hard to remember to never put it in the same pocket as your phone. First of all, is this the true reason, and secondly, is there a way to avoid it (like a special ticket holder that protects the card)?

Heat, magnets, they also just wear out. Any electronic devise can affect them. You should keep the card in a protective sleeve at least and as far away from any electronic devise just to be safe. However, you statement about it being a train pass, I can only assume that you use it on a regular basis, or at least several time a week. It could just be that it is wearing out and does not last you very long. If you do use it often you might concider getting a plastic envelope to keep it in that hangs around your neck. This would keep it out of the way for other things that might affect it.
