can't install new SATA USB external hard drive

i plug it in and my vista says it has installed the new drivers but I can't "find" the drive to save things to it!, can anyone help!

Right-click My Computer and choose Manage
In the Storage section, click DIsk Management
Locate the drive and enable it
Format it

If you bought the disk and case as one unit the disk SHOULD already be formatted.

When you open "my computer" do you see icons for your other drives (C, D etc). You external one may be G or something like that. There should be an icon for it.

You need to RIGHT-click the Computer icon on the desk top
