HDTV - PAY AND PLAY

My son want a portable HDTV in his bedroon. We have no SKY or Digital connection. Is it a case of buying it and turning on .

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Any new HDTV will probably have Freeview included, but it will also be able to pick up analogue signals until analogue is switched off. To get either analogue or freeview you will need a "normal" aerial in the room.
Then you just turn it on and "tune" the TV to pick up the signals.
The only way you can get "HD" (if that is what he wants) is to have a satellite dish and either buy a "Freesat" box (from BBC/ITV) - no monthly charge, or a Sky HD subscription (monthly charge).
If it is a portable TV then to be honest it is probably not worth paying for HD (it is not clear from your question whether you actualy WANT HD or not, or just "normal" TV)
