5 days holiday for public sector after marriage.

I'm not sure if this is the right catagory to submit this but I have been told by my father-in-law that because I work for a company that is government owned I am entitled to 5 days holiday after getting married.

Is this true or is it an old policy? He said I am entitled to it but I cannot seem to find anything on the government website.

Any help would be appreciated.

is it a civil service post? they do allow "special leave" for most life altering events!

I work for a local council and got no such leave. If it is an applicable policy it will be in your contract or employee handbook.

Many public sector employers also provide paid leave for the whole range of non-life-altering events. In fact there is often a Department responsible for creating new such opportunities.

Not all public sector get wedding leave, certainly not Local Authories. But, Civil Service do. Mr thug was given 5 days leave. It won't be on any website but will be contained in the terms and conditions of employment.

who do you think will carry out the missing 10 hours work for that period?

I have been a civil servant for quite a long time and up to the early 90s staff were given 5 days special leave for marriage but it was stopped about 1993 I think. As an aside I know it's a standard joke about civil servants workload but I regularly work 10 hour days without overtime and work through my 30 min lunch break most days. After 19 years I am also earning well below the national average salary.
