Why are there no American drivers or teams in Formula1

there's also been a host of US drivers over the years, some examples here:

In the US though, they're well served by motor sports: see NASCAR; Indycar; and Champcars ; these are predominatally US teams and drivers but like F1 in reverse there have been some notable European drivers. Sebastian Bourdais was Champcar champion for several years, for example.

In recent history BAR were an anglo american team in F1 for a few years, michael andretti drove for mclaren in 1993 rather unsuccessfully as well.
