I got married 2 weeks ago so i now have 2 stepdaughters aged 28 and 30.
the 28 year old works for the metropolitan police as a crime analyst and has just applied for a job doing the same for west yorkshire police, she has been told she has got the job.
my problem is that i have a criminal conviction for theft dating back to 1979.
I have not told my wife about this or my stepdaughters, will this prevent my stepdaughter from getting the job, she already works for the met as a civillian.

I have no knowledge of the policies and terms involved, but it could very well be seen as being evasive and duplicitous if was subsequently discovered by your stepdaughter's employer.

It might be a bit late now, but I would say WYP would prefer it being declared up front rather than not, given that it is a 30 year old conviction.

On the other hand, she quite possibly would have had to name you as a stepfather on the application form, so they can do checks on close relatives.
Oops, shot my bolt there.

My final point would have been that they have already done background checks on her relatives and are OK with your conviction.

It could still be better to me upfront about it with your new family though?
Will make no difference at all to the woman. She was an adult when you married her mother and will have not come under your influence i.e. you didn't bring her up as a child. I know of a magistrate whose stepson is a convicted robber, she married the mans father post conviction.
