italian after dinner drink

When we were in Sardinia we were given a dark brown after dinner drink which was delicious!! Does anyone know what it's called & where I can buy it in the UK?

Pretty sure it wasn't grappa because I'd heard of that. Is it a dark brown, sweet drink meant for 'after dinner'?

we were served grappa in Sardinia after a meal - it's their equivalent to a brandy (I think)

It was Mirto, which is an amaor, or slightly bitter digestif/digestivo made from the myrtle berries. We had it there years ago and brought back a bottle. Funny, we just had a glass the other night after many years!!

Don't know if you can buy it in the UK (or US for that matter.)

Hi,

Definitely the "Mirto". It is a liquer made from the Mirto plant fruit or leaves.

You tried the Mirto Rosso (red) which actually seems black and is made from the fruit.

When made from the leaves it is called Mirto Bianco (white!) but the red one, Mirto Rosso, for me and many others is the best and more sold.
