Can anyone help with the following Virus situation?

A friend's PC seems to have been infected with a virus the executable having an identity of 93767133.exe. It pretends to be some sort of cleaner but it has taken over his PC and blocks anything he tries to do. He can't even open MS Word. I have tried searching for such an exe but to no avail. It sounds like a random generated number, maybe to hide its true identity? Can anyone shed a light on this or suggest another course of action?

By the way he is running Windows, not sure which version, and Norton security software.

Well you could try the Avira rescue system which you can download from their website at

Do it on a clean PC (yours ?), double click on the downloaded file and have a blank CD/DVD handy because it includes software to burn the whole thing to CD/DVD. Then boot from the CD/DVD and let it do it's stuff. The signatures in the package are always the latest ones available, so there is no need to try and update them.

When I get these problems, and knowing NOTHING about them, I just put the numbers etc. into ASK.com! You should give it a try....

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from http://www.malwarebytes.org - I\'ve seen what your friend has on many, many PC\'s lately, and Anti-Malware usually does the trick. Run it from \"safe mode\" once it\'s installed.

Johnty, I did, and it came up with a phone number in Vancouver, I think it was, plus loads of Chinese stuff I obviously couldn't decipher!

WesterRoss, If you have a google toolbar you will find a Translate button to find out the chinese bit, I think, but give it a try and get back.
