does anybody know the old roman??? meaning of the word chester as in city     re colchester manchester rochester  and old roman town silchester   winchester etc

castra - a roman camp. (plural in Latin with singular meaning in English)

Street is strada before you ask.

These are late latin - Dorchester was Durnovaria - and Manchester was Mamucium and then castra was added later. Exeter - isca.

There are places called Caistor - Wales and East Anglia.
