Swine Flu Jab call
Hi
The doctors have been phoning round all pregnant women where I stay inviting us for the jag.
I'm away just now so never got the chance to speak to them
I know theres already a topic about this from a while ago. Just wondering if anyone else would like to add their opinion on it.
Me and a few pregnant friends are a bit wary as its been made that quick and still dont know of any side effects.

You are the only one who can say whether you are comfortable about having the jab as you are the one that will have to deal with any consequences of having or not having it.
Good luck with your decision and your pregnancy :-)

There are two manufacturers of the swine flu vaccine - One is Glaxo Smith Klein - this one contains something called an adjuvant which boosts the reaction of your immune system to help with the vaccine. The other is Baxter which is more traditional and does not.
There's no particular cause for concern about this but as an extra precaution I think the advise is for pregnant women to be given the Baxter one.
Pregnant women were not in the trials but that is normal, they never are and the system for running flu vaccines runs every year and is pretty tried and tested.
You have to balance this along with the risk of complications of getting swine flu while pregnant.

If I were you I'd go for it but I'd probably make sure it was the Baxter one and not the GSK to be on the safe side

I was told by my surgery (I'm 7 months pregnant) that pregnant women are 4 times more likely to die from swine flu than non-pregnant women. scary statistic!
i am also wary of having the jab, but don't want to run the risk of catching it (i work in a university so come into direct contact with thousands of students every day).
