Im reading Nobody True by James Herbert at the moment.  Ive actually been reading it about a fortnight now as ever since i discovered AB this is the only place I've been.  I keep having to read the end of the last chapter i was up to over and over to refresh my memory as to whats happening.  Dont think i'll ever finish it

I finished the first Flashman by by George MacDonald Fraser last week. If it counts I am now reading the guide book for Renishaw Hall because I went there yesterday.

Forgot to mention - Flashman was well worth the effort, the cad. Renishaw Hall is well worth a visit (if you like gardens, you can't go in the hall).

I am currently reading about a book a week as there is nothing on TV at the mo (I hate BB!)

2 weeks ago I read To Kill a Mockingbird for the first time, which was excellent and I would definitely recommend.

Last week (finished it yesterday) I read The Breaker by Minette Walters, a crime novel which was good. 

I am now reading The Time Travellers Wife which was recommended in another post.  I'm only on about the 2nd chapter but so far it is good, and certainly very interesting

Am currently re-reading all the Harry Potter novels prior to the new one coming out, and definately worth the effort! Before that I read Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens. Worth the effort, but prefer David Copperfield and A Tale of Two Cities.

Guinevere, read The Time Travellers Wife last year, an excellent book. I lent it to a friend who declared it her favourite ever book!

Kate Atkinson: Behind the scenes at the museum.  I has started reading: S. Marai: Conversation in Bolzano, but could not get past the first few pages as I found it boring. Behind the scenes... however, was gripping from the start.

I too Guinevere, am reading "The Time Traveller's Wife" because it was so highly recommended on an earlier thread but so far only read the first 60 pages or so - unfortunately too much good weather out in the garden to sit and read! I find it so original.

If you want to read a book that will truly blow you away, read 'The Long Walk' by Slavomir  Rawicz.  It is a true story of human courage and endurance.  Everyone that I know who has read this book have listed it in their top ten book list.

I recently treated myself to "Sickened" by Julie Gregory.

I haven't read it yet but its a true story of a lost childhood in relation to Munchausen by Proxy, i.e. the child was continually x-rayed, medicated and operated on in the vain pursuit of an illness made up in her mother's mind.

Its the one I plan to start reading next when I have 5 minutes to pick it up and get started on it!!!

NEALWAG - have you read Dave Pelzer's Trilogy? A Child Called It, The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. Its a true story detailing the worst case of child abuse ever recorded in California and it is the most awe-inspiring set of books, again the element of human courage and endurance by one man is there. Definitely in my Top Ten.

Currently reading "The American Boy" by Andrew Taylor. A long way to go and I left it for a couple of days to re-read "The War of the Worlds" in anticipation of seeing the film, but it appears very good so far and I think I am going to really enjoy it. Eager to get on with the next one though - "The Hopkins Manuscript" (RC Sherriff) has just arrived from Persephone Books and they haven't let me down so far.

1. We Need To Talk About Kevin. ( A mother reflects upon the role she played as mother to a high school assassin)

2. The Ninth Life Of Louis Drax (Blows The Curious Incident Of The Dog....out of the water)

3. Fingersmith    (A page turner full of shocks and twists)

4. Atonement    Ian Mckewan (first 100 pages you are doing all the work but are heavily rewarded from thereon.)

Just finished reading The Various Haunts of Men by Susan Hill. Too many character perspectives for my liking in the first half but it settles down halfway through. I'll see if the second in the series is an improvement but I'm intrigued now by mentions of The Time Travellers Wife. I remember reading To Kill a Mocking Bird at school about 20 years ago! It took forever to finish. Rooftrouser, you'll enjoy The American Boy, it's beautifully written. The one book I've read again as soon as I finished it was Happy Now by Charlie Higson. Very unsettling but totally gripping.

Splange, I've just finished We Need to Talk About Kevin.  I kept thinking, when are we going to hear the Husband's point of view aboutThursday!  Didn't see the ending coming at all (maybe I'm stupid!).

yeah I thought that perhaps the husband had left her, as she talked about everything in the past tense but the ending crept up on me. Fantastic,I thought.
