Would you nick testers from the cosmetics counters in department stores?

I have a mate, who shall obviously remain nameless (tight cow) who gets most of her make-up absolutely free... by nicking all the testers from the beauty counters - well, the ones without security tags on, as the vast majority of testers are not equipped with security tags.

She says she always cleans them thoroughly before use, but I still think it's a bit risky - you don't know who's had them on their lips or what viruses or warty things they might have had.

What do you think - a good idea, the depths of disgusting or just generally rank?

if testing, id only ever test on back of my hand. Also, what about conjunctivitis, not nice to get either.

but as said, its theft so perhaps all her coldsores are some sort of karma.

and while we are on the subject of testers, I hate the fact that most stores have testers but no mirror, so whats the point.

I must admit, I never use any testers other than perfume or the odd cream. Never a lipstick and certainly never ever anything that goes on my eyes.

Those testers are not free product, they are charged to each House and if they get stolen the cost has to be calculated into the Loss of that dept. The staff will be protective of their product as it is their job and anyone touching the testers will be approached within seconds as part of the sales technique, anyone trying to remove testers will be spotted and the LP alerted via the button on the till, one press and the camera automatically swings to the alert point, it's technically impossible to not be picked up on camera if you are a actinf suspiciously in a store these days.

Dot is right about cameras. They are everywhere. My car was stolen in Tesco petrol station and I later got the video film of what happened, about 20 different angles from coming in to going out.

You're telling me they're protective - they swoop down like a vulture on a stinking carcass. Apparently though she has been doing it for years - so she's obviously very discreet 7 unsuspicious-acting. Maybe cos she looks as though she's got plenty of money, is not obviously young, chav, skint or rough - they don't automatically pick on her as a suspect?

even the stores still housed in older premises have spent thousands on the latest tehcnical equipment to boost their stance on Loss Prevention, as insurance companies will not cover them for loss, theft, accident, etc without the state of the art equipment.

salla i have been to dozens of Loss Prevention meetings and it is not about how a person looks at all, it is about body language, if she browses but never buys then she will be watched closely.

if we are talking perfume, they could probably write about ten of them off after one sale. the liquid in the bottle represents only 3 per cent of the total cost of producing it. the other 97 per cent goes to marketing, packaging and advertising. and the selling price allows for a 95 per cent profit margin.

pretty sure its similar for all the other reconstituted whale blubber slop that women slap all over their mush.

Yes Sqad. They got him after he had stolen another vehicle (after I got mine back ten days later). I was the stupid person who left my keys in the car. Learnt my lesson now, and it did make me get a better car in the meantime. Anyone want a used SLK?

Ankou that is probably correct, but the manager of the House will be responsible for the loss of her product and will lose her bonus if the loss percentage is unacceptable, and so whilst the true cost is one issue, the implications and inpact on jobs and pay to the staff at the cutting edge is immeasurable
