WW1 Records research

For some considerable time, I have been trying to find what happened to my maternal grandmother's
brother, Lachlan Maclean. The last I could find of him was in the 1901 census for Skye when he was 24 and living at home. The other day, I found this website http://www.1914-1918.net/forum/index.php, put on a message for my relative, with virtually no information, and the same day, I received a reply giving me his regiment, his service number, and the medals he won, one of which confirmed he had served in a campaign overseas. Unfortunately, his records were destroyed in 1941 when the building in London which housed them was bombed. I hope I'm not giving you information which you are already familiar with but I just wanted to share my success.
