Router not working, so went out and bought a new one

so do i have to uninstall the old one first? daft question but i want to do this right, thanks in advance, ps the new one i got is a TP-Link anybody heard of them?

The documentation with the router should tell you the IP address for the browser to connect. You will need the username and password from your provider.
However the connection problem may not have been with the router. It could be the Ethernet port on your computer in wihich case you won't be able to log into either the old or the new router.
