I took up cycling and it was the single most terrifying experiences of my life - my new pastime didnt last long.
Car drivers are very inconsiderate and thats coming from a car driver. At least you feel reasonably safe in the shell of a car -I felt extremely vulnerable as a cyclists.
No I dont think they should be taxed as the sides of the roads are pitted and full of little dangerous potholes which throw you off course.
I now have an exercise bike -far safer !!

As a car driver and motor cycle rider I do try to consider cyclists but some of them just shouldn't be allowed out on two feet let alone two wheels.
Mk where I live is covered with good wide red way paths but cyclists want and insist on using the road. Some of them wobble every where, some ride in packs and take up the entire lane and refuse to give way. Some refuse to stop at traffic lights, others don't seem to think lights at night are requiered by them especially at the main round about at the top of the A5D. I have never met another group of people so intent on killing themselves and think that just because they use a relitively eco friendly form of transport it makes them better than every one else.
I am not saying that car drivers are perfect but cyclists do tend to take th biscuit sometimes.

Speaking as a cyclist myself, yes it does appal me the way some other cyclists behave, but motorists shouldn't tar us all with the same brush, I've been cut up so many times at junctions that I now get off and walk at certain places! Maybe prospective car drivers should be made to cycle around their town as part of their test so they know how it feels!
Good idea slinky !!
Have to say that most of the posts about inconsiderate cycling doesnt apply to where I live as im quite rural and we dont have cycle lanes and have only one set of traffic lights.
However being in Perth yesterday there was a cyclist with an i-pod on cycling bang in the middle of the road and car drivers didnt know what to do- you cant udertake- we didnt know if she was gonna swerve back into the side of the road -very frustrating- then she just cycled right across the road on to the pavement at the red lights and didnt bother who was on the pavement.
That gives cyclists a bad name !!!
