Not sure this in the right section but here goes anyway!  I recently bought an iPod mini and the instruction booklet says that when fully charged it should have a play time of approximately 18 hours.  Well I've charged it a few times now until it says it is full charged (leaving it plugged in for at least 5 hours) but the battery life seems to running out after about 6 hours.  Does anyone know if there is a way of making the battery last longer or charging it more comprehensively?  Thanks.

never believe the numbers they give you !

one way to extend battery life is to lower the volume

most magazines say it has 8 - 10 hours effectivly and i am getting about 8ish from mine

Hi

Thing's like taking the backlight off, so it doesn't come on at all should lengthen the battery time :o)

apparently it's better to not run it down completely like a mobile and in fact you should be topping it up daily.

THanks for all the tips - I will try everything you suggest.

Other things that will make a difference (all be it slight) are using the random play function as this means constantly accessing the memory rather than caching the tunes in advance; and using the EQ settings such as bass boost. - These things don't have a huge effect but they add up when combined with the backlight etc.
Did you buy it from Apple directly?  If not, you may have been sold the previous edition that only had an 8 hour battery life.  The new ones are marketed at 18 hours, but even if exaggerated you should get at least 10 hours if it is the real deal.
Yes, i agree with mattk. Never believe the figures!!! Everything I've ever bought with rechargable batteries never lasted as long as they stated!!!
Turn the volume down reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaally low. It doesn't sound so good, but the battery life goes waaaaaaaay up.
the figure refers to the ipod playing continusaly with a medium volume setting and not being interfeared with, by scrolling about and changing songs you use power.
