Stuck on two clues:
Irish News clue: Is successful in a boring job 7 letters ?I?R?E?
Slit at the front 6 letters ?R?O?H
I am not 100% certain about the letters I have - the answers that seem to fit the letters are PIERCES and BROOCH but they bear no resemblance to the clues! All help appreciated

I agree with pierces...if you were doing 'a boring job' i.e. drilling a hole in something and managed to pierce it then you would have succeeded.
2. breach? a gap made in a fortification/at the front/scene of hostilities

Many thanks - the Breach is obviously the riught answer but the pierces (although correct too) is a very bad clue in my humble opinion - If I had been the compiler another answer would be DRAWING (WIN in a DRAG -boring job)
Again thank you
