Since ntl put recordable box in, can video things, get sound, but no pic

Hi, since good old NTL put a recordable box in, I can video things, when I play the videoback, I get sound but no picture.
I have tried the video recorder upstairs with the normal basic ntl box and it records and I get a picture when I play the video back. I have tried putting the cable leads in various places but I get no joy.

Are you using the same cable to record on new box and basic box? If not try a new cable for connecting the new box.
