On Sunday, the royal family laid their wreaths in the following order: Queen; Prince Phillip; then their kids with Harry standing in for Charles, followed by Andrew, Edward and finally Ann. The laying was in a different order to childbirth. Also, Queen lays her wreath on top level, leaning against monument, Phillip's, Charles', Andrew's and Ann's were on top level, but laid flat, whilst Edward's was on the next level down. Questions are - 1. Why did the order of laying differ to childbirth when they all hold pseudo miltary commisions etc. and 2. why did Edward's wreath have to go on a different level to the others?

There was certainly enough room on the top level - maybe he is just a plonker. (whoops - is that treasonable?)
There are whole acts of Parliament on precidence - see here for an overview.

Although called an Earl since his marriage, Edward is still a Prince.
