I have a Laptop (only 3 months old) with Vista installed. I really do not like Vista and my new laptop is actually slower than my old one running XP.
I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 as the reviews I have read indicate it is much better than Vista. Is it just a case of purchasing the Windows 7 disc and installing it?
Also, I have installed quite a few programs on my new laptop, would installing Windows 7 mean that I would lose these programs and things like my photos and music? I know I can put my photos and music on my external hard drive and then reload them, but I just dont want the hassle of installing and configuring all of my programs (Microsoft office, Nero,Zone Alarm, Anti Virus, etc).
in theory you can upgrade to windows 7 and all programs files and settings will remain untouched.
However, I would not risk doing it without backing up all your personal files first.
also if the laptop is only 3 months old you are probably entitled to a free upgrade to windows 7 (well free other than a £20 P&P cost) check with were you bought it.
