changing your path in life

i am getting so frustrated, trying to stay positive......but there seems no end to it, the recession I mean,
I have a degree and was gaining quite a decent career for myself when the recession hit and now i find myself working in retail, single and still living with my parents at 27.
I have no kids so thats one thing, but life just feels like groundhog day and im applying, applying, applying and getting nowhere, it just seems to take so much time and energy and get nowhere.
I dont want to end up old and lonely , but im apparoaching 30......living with my parents and even though i have a degree im on minimum wage and only bring home about £770 a month.
So are there any people out there in similar situations? It's just I used to think i was headed on the right path yet now i feel like i am on the scrap heap both socially, sexually and in the career department.
Personality should win through surely, but all these other factors are negative. Would anyone recommend going travelling, seeing the world and clearing my mind? I JUST WANT TO FIND PEACE AND HAPPINESS WITHIN MYSELF

Travel is always good to expand the outlook, though not at the cost of jobs in todays market. Save all you can in case.....should the worst happen you will have a cushion of cash to travel on.
Am watching Rob Wms @ Knebworth & he's crying on stage - money doesn't guarantee happiness!

im male, and yeah i know im lucky to be in work but then i think maybe thats a losers mentality, as my high flying friends would probably see my job as a bit of a joke, but im doing my best in a bad situation and cannot think of anything more i could do.
Where would you look for renting with like minded folk? im not sure if thatd be like being at uni all over again which was fun yet also, could i be doing with people bringing people home for sex, playing loud music etc......although yes its an idea to get me out and about

Look on gumtree.com for travelling companions - if that's what you need to widen horizons. Travelling alone is better as you make friends easier. Get Lonely Planet, start planning your adventure and 'earn as you go'.
Just keep your head & you will be safe. Note where the Brit High Commision or Embassy is in each country you plan to visit - in case of complications.

If you are same guy who has used other IDs to ask questions on here regarding your career (you work in Asda?) and life in general, I do recommend that you consider some form of career-counselling.
You will get many a sympathetic ear on here but isn't the same as counselling because of the remote nature of the communications medium.
Good luck

If you want to find peace and happiness within yourself, then travelling is wihout doubt the best thing for you to do. Go to somewhere completely different to where you are now. I recommend Africa, do some volunteering and you can see life from people's prespective who are in poverty. Experience different cultures and just see all the amazing things there are to see in the world. You will come back a changed person trust, and then you'll just think how strange life is, and then probably be more confused, haha, no but seriously. When you return, everything wll be simple and you will naturally see a path to follow.
The recession is hitting everyone and you are not alone, there are so many people unemployed so you have already got one over them. The benefit of backpacking too is that you meet people that you can stay life long frinds with.
Just clear mind for a while and enjoy yourself. You seem ambitious, but you only live once, and travelling may be one of the best experiences of your life.
